Officers from the Westport Police Department received reports at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, from drivers near the intersection of Treadwell Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue of a motorist that was stopped in the middle of the roadway.

Police said that the driver - later identified as Westport resident Cameron Masnayon - did not respond to other motorists’ attempts to get his attention. Upon arrival, officers said that there was traffic going around Masnayon’s vehicle in the intersection as he slept in the front seat.

Masnayon was asleep at the wheel when officers found him, and the vehicle was moved to a safe location. While speaking with Masnayon, police said officers detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the passenger compartment, which Masnayon admitted to using.

According to police, the subsequent search of Masnayon’s vehicle found a jar of marijuana and a plastic bag with cocaine in a compartment under the driver’s seat.

Masnayon was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana. Masnayon was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear for his arraignment at Norwalk Superior Court on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
